What is BC PNP Tech?

The Canadian government has made the pathway to obtaining permanent residency easier for international students through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Every year, the government increases the number of invitations for PNP candidates, making it the fastest route for international students to immigrate to Canada.

Each territory and province in Canada design the PNP to meet the specific economic requirements of the area. Home to the third-largest city in Canada, Vancouver, the British Columbia province operates with its PNP popularly referred to as BC PNP. The BC provincial nominee program has been put in place to meet the increasing labor market demands in the province.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) was launched in 2015 as a part of the Canada-British Columbia Immigration Agreement (CBCIA). BC PNP is an economic immigration scheme under which the province can nominate a certain number of skilled international workers and graduates for permanent residency by their qualifications to work in high-demand sectors in the province.

BC PNP Tech

BC Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Tech was introduced in 2017 as a pilot program to meet the labor deficiency in the technological sector and was declared permanent in 2021. BC PNP Tech allows tech employers to recruit skilled international workers to join their workforce when local talents are scarce. According to the data published in Welcome BC, more than 6,000 tech workers have been nominated for permanent residency under the program so far.

Who is eligible for BC PNP Tech?

The BC PNP Tech application process is open to those who have registered either in the BC PNP Skills Immigration or Express Entry stream. The mandatory requirements for the BC PNP Tech nominations are listed below:

• You should have a job offer in one of the 29 qualified / in-demand occupations listed in the British Columbia province
• The job offer should be for at least one year
• If you are already working for the employer at the time of applying, there must be 120 days remaining in the offer period
• The offer must be full-time and from an employer who meets the eligibility requirements of the province.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, your application will be processed on a priority basis as tech jobs are in high demand. BC PNP conducts tech draws every week to invite applicants to apply for PR based on their registration score.

What is the score required for BC PNP?

PNP makes use of the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) to filter the eligible candidates from the list of applications they receive. You must register for the PNP intake, and the SIRS assigns you a score out of 200 based on your job offer, education, language and experience. The periodic draws separate the candidates who get the cut-off marks from the rest which allows BC to invite applications from qualified candidates.

Additionally, to be eligible for the BC PNP tech program, candidates should be registered for one of the BC Skills Immigration programs. This includes undergraduates and postgraduates who have recently completed a tech program from a Canadian post-secondary educational institution.
