Vancouver Has Ranked First in North America for High-Tech Software Job Growth

The CBRE North America Tech 30 Report published in 2020 placed Vancouver as the number one tech market in the North American region (the USA and Canada).

 

The CBRE North America Tech 30 Report published in 2020 placed Vancouver as the number one tech market in the North American region (the USA and Canada). The report also stated that the rate of growth of the tech market in the city reached an impressive 29.2% between 2018 and 2019.

The other close contenders were San Francisco with a growth rate of 27%, Austin with 23%, Seattle with 22% and New York with 18%.

In 2019, Vancouver added 14,200 new jobs to the tech industry which accounted for 68.6% of the total new office jobs, enabling the city to rank high on CBRE’s list. It was one of the only three Canadian cities in this year’s list apart from Toronto at the sixth position and Montreal at the 29th position.

The rankings for the CBRE report were generated using employment data from the last few years. The impressive standing of Vancouver proves that the tech industry in the city has been resilient during the recent pandemic and has also helped other sectors stay afloat.
